How to Make a Soccer Highlight Video College Coaches Watch

By Ethan Harris, former RSL Academy and Weber State player · Updated 2026-10-22

Short answer

Keep it to about 3 to 5 minutes, put your best 30 seconds first, mark yourself before each clip, show the skills your position needs, and host it on a link that opens in one click.

What to include

  • A title card: name, grad year, position, club, jersey number, GPA and email.
  • Your best clips first. Many coaches decide within the first minute.
  • Clips that show your position's job: defenders defending, midfielders receiving and passing under pressure, forwards finishing and running in behind.
  • A short clip of full game footage if a coach asks for it later.

Make it easy to watch

  • Use an arrow or circle to mark yourself before each clip starts.
  • No long intros or loud music.
  • Upload to YouTube (unlisted is fine) or a recruiting profile, and test the link on your phone.

Keep it updated

Add new clips each season and send the new link in a follow-up email. A fresh video is one of the best reasons to email a coach again.
