NCAA Soccer Recruiting Rules Explained

By Ethan Harris, former RSL Academy and Weber State player · Updated 2026-10-22

Short answer

You can email college coaches at any age. Division I soccer coaches can start private messages, calls and verbal offers from June 15 after your sophomore year. Rules for other divisions differ, so check the official NCAA calendar.

What you can do any time

  • Email coaches, send your highlight video and share your schedule.
  • Attend camps and visit campuses on your own (unofficial visits).
  • Talk to your club coach, who can talk to college coaches about you.

Division I

  • From June 15 after sophomore year, coaches can send private messages, call and make verbal offers.
  • Official visits follow their own dates and limits set by the NCAA.
  • Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior college

Division II and III have their own contact rules, generally less restrictive than Division I, and NAIA and junior college programs follow their own associations' rules. Always check the current calendar, since rules change.
